FOOD REVIEW
Menu of the day |
Now lets talk serious business, where its all about the food! I think it was really sweet that Hugo's by Modesto's printed a menu card for us to have a preview of what we'll be tasting that night. So as you can see, we have 2 starters, soup, 3 mains and dessert to end our meal with.
Rucola E Insalata Di Pere E Balsamico Con Parmigiano // RM23 |
First up on the list was the Rucola E Insalata Di Pere E Balsamico Con Parmigiano, which in simpler forms of English is really just Rocket Salad with Balsamic and Parmesan Wafers. The combination of the salad was very light and refreshing if you ask me, where I think its pretty clear that you can see Rocket Salad were being placed on top of thinly sliced apples. I found the portion slightly small, but it was definitely built me an appetite since its an appetizer.
Speciale Zuppa del Giorno // RM18 |
Next would be the Speciale Zuppa Del Giorno, which is actually the chef's special soup of the day. I can be very particular with soup, but this was actually pretty good. The soup of the day served tasted like onion soup with bread crumbs, which did not taste salty at all. Very palatable to my tastebuds but portion wise, is a little bit too fancy if you have a huge appetite if you ask me.
Vietnamese Seafood Stuffed Spring Roll // RM23 |
Next would be the Vietnamese Seafood Stuffed Spring Roll served with Nuoc Chan Sauce. This was actually pretty good. But i wouldn't say that its something that you can find in Vietnam since I recently came back from Vietnam about 1 month ago, but it tasted more like an Asian fusion dish, where the spring roll tasted like a Chinese crispy dim sum served with the Nuoc Chan Sauce which tasted relatively like Thai chili sauce. I wouldn't mind another plate of these spring rolls!
Cannelloni AL Funghi E Parmigiano Con Tartufo // RM32 |
For those who are up for something different, the Cannelloni Al Funghi E Parmigiano Con Tartufo a.k.a Crepe with creamy mushroom and parmesan cheese is a must try. It tasted very light, and if you think that its going to taste salty because of the parmesan, it did not. The creamy mushroom practically overcomes the parmesan cheese making the ingredients compliment each other once it enters your mouth. Yums! I wouldn't exactly recommend you to have this is you have a big appetite, but if you're just up for something as a light bite, this crepe would be the perfect dish for those who are not so heavy eaters.
Premier half Roasted Chicken // RM34 |
As for the mains, we had the Premier Half Roasted Chicken, served with Coleslaw, French Fries and Gravy. The chicken was super tender and well marinated, so you can imagine the chicken basically melting in your mouth with the gravy which is perfectly flavored to perfection. Its a little small for a half sized chicken if you ask me, so I kinda wished that it was bigger in portion.
Dragone // RM39 |
And I might have to say that this might be the highlight among all the meals. The Dragone, which is a dragon shaped with mozzarella, Turkey Ham, Eggs and Mushroom which kinda resembles a mutated pizza I guess. lol. I was surprised that the pizza turned out to look this way. The most satisfying moment is when you start cutting your knife through this 'dragone' and you'll see the mozzarella melting out of it. PURE SATISFACTION. haha. I loved the side sauce which I think is some kind of tomato paste which goes pretty well with the pizza.
Crepe Suzette // RM20 |
And look, another crepe, but this time as a dessert! The Crepe Suzette is served caramelized with a Tangerine Zest and Flambe. This actually tasted pretty good as it wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. The center is filled with vanilla ice cream, which blended really well with the tangerine zest juice which created an interesting flavor once its in your mouth.
House Special Mojito (Available in Alcohol and non-alcohol) |
And last but not least was their house special mojito. I took the non-alcoholic mojito and it basically tasted like lime juice with mint. The drink didn't taste that bad, but I wish I asked if they had more mocktails on their menu.
As a verdict, I would say that the food tasted rather healthy and not at all salty. But I wouldnt say that its considered cheap, but you can opt for cheaper dishes if you're on a low budget. A little expensive in my opinion as the portion does not impress me that much sadly. So if you think you're a light eater, this would be a suitable place for you to enjoy the evening with light meals and drinks with friends. I would definitely come back for drinks as the ambiance looks amazing for photos and a good catch up session since its private.
