The authentic Italian Gelato, Sottozero.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream!  Everyone loves ice-cream and especially to the ladies on a grumpy day, this might just do the trick! And if you haven't heard about Sottozero, they have officially launched their first store at Alamanda, Putrajaya. Here are a few things that you need to know about the best of Italian experience that Sottozero has to offer.

The present ice-cream market in Malaysia mostly consist of ice-creams that are either locally produced or brought in from overseas market by traditional international and regional brands. Most of the common ice-creams offered are manufactured in the factory or in a central kitchen environment and delivered to retail sites weeks if not months later, robbing the ice-cream consumers of its freshness and flavours. And here is where Sottozero comes in to save the day as there are not many parlours or kiosk that produces and offer freshly made ice-cream daily at the retail site. Sottozero is one of the rare gelatarias that produce their own gelatos on site by Italian Gelato Artisan, and yes, by an actual Italian preparing you your gelato.

This is one of my favorites where its called the gelato dessert which taste like real ice-blended fruits with some cream on the side. Each day they will only serve 4 flavors and it changes daily with different kind of fruits. I’ve attached a photo of it so that you can refer to it below, and god it taste like heaven. And if youre health conscious, fret not, as gelato is way healthier than ice-cream as its made out of real fruits with not artificial flavourings.

The Business Model and Concept of Sottozero, was inspired from Gelato Messina, and award winning gelato chain in Australia with a touch of the famous Brunetti Café of Melbourne. From the exterior perspective of their store, im sure that you would say that it looks like an igloo! And yes, they were recreating an igloo concept with translucent white and a faint ice-bluish light tint demarcating its ice block lines. A window is also available to show the daily making of Gelato by Italian Artisan on site.

They also serve a wide variety of gelato, of at least 24 flavors of fresh made Gelato (55%) on site using the highest quality of natural ingredients with Gelato Cakes of assorted designs and flavors (20%), Coffee and Cold Drinks (15%). They will serve their finest Italian Coffee which has a secret blend of an Italian touch, followed by their lattee, cappuccino and Italian style of fruit granitas freshly made daily. The flavors varies from lemon, pistachio (MY FAVE), strawberry, mango, orange, watermelon and etc.  Another 10% offers Italian Pastry like cannoli with custard, bomboloni, minions and crepes made freshly with fruits and other types of savouries.

As mention about their Italian Coffee, most of their ingredients are imported all the way from Italy, and yes that includes their gelato and desert making ingredients, not forgetting their waffle cones and wafer biscuits. It also uses pre-selected seasonal fruits daily as one of its key ingredients.

So if you happen to be around Putrajaya, do drop by Sottozero and try their amazing gelato’s! And if youre wondering about the area of Sottozero, its 720 square feet which can fit around 40 pax.
